Yesterday after work I get in my car, start it up and it immediately goes to a 2000rpm idle. Ambient temp was about 42F. We sat there for a minute, no change. Popped the hood and pinched off the hose to the IAC, the rpms immediatedly dropped, almost to nothing, as soon as I released the hose, the idle shot back up to 2000 (I checked). Pinching off the purge valve hose did nothing. I start driving home. As I'm driving, the car is still exhibiting the same behavior it has in this condition (put the clutch in - see ~1800rpm), lift off the throttle in 1-4 over 2000 "upshift" light stays on). With the needle about 1/4" above the cold zone, I pull off and pinch the IAC hose again, with the same results.
My interpretation is that this means my problem is not a sticking throttle plate, or leakage past the purge valve, or any other leak. IT seems like something is telling the IAC to stay open (IAC is ~6 months old).
I'm also getting a moderate amount of bucking, on closed throttle decel. Not stumbling, but bucking - surge, decel, surge, decel, with short, uneven cycles. It's not threatening to break an engine mount, but it's not smooth either.
Gotta run, but thoughts anyone?
Mike
