Hi Simon,
I purchased a '95 Sensonic a couple of weeks back both out of curiosity of the technology and because where I live, in Hong Kong, manual Saabs are extremely rare. Sensonic's are rare too though not as rare as proper manual's!
The gear selection mechanism on the Sensonic is, as far as I can tell, identical to a full manual. Therefore I think that either your clutch is not disengaging after the change (a Sensonic problem probably requiring a dealer fix - though this doesn't sound too helpful in your case) or perhaps it could be caused by linkage missalignment (or both). This is easy to check - do you have a Haynes manual? Page 7A.3 describes the procedure. Only takes about 10 minutes and any mechanic could check it.
Hope this helps,
Oliver
