>>Should I use synthetic?
I wouldn't run a car without it, and haven't for about 24 years.
>>? Is it ok to drain non-Synthetic and fill with Synthetic? I remember someone posted a process that it requires to make the switch.
Sure, but I recommend using a good engine flush first (AMSOIL and BG make the best I know of). The flush will remove the sludge/varnish left in the engine by the non-synthetic, and do it faster than the change of synthetic will do. If you don't, or won't, flush, then plan to change the oil filter after 1-2,000 miles, and drop the first load of synthetic after 3-4,000.
Based on over 24 years of using and selling AMSOIL, my (possibly biased) recommendation is:
AMSOIL Series 2000 0W-30
AMSOIL 5W-30 or 10W-30
Mobil 1 0W-30, 5W-30, or 10W-30
Redline
>>Also what brand oil filter do you recommend?
If you are going to drain every 3,000 miles, it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference. If you plan to extend the drain interval, it makes sense to use the best:
In order of overall efficiency and capacity (for those I have info on)
AMSOIL SDF
Mobil 1
Hard Driver
Hastings
Wix
Pure One
Purolater
AC
