Abbott America (Long) Replys?? Posted by Saabster [Email] ![]() ![]() |
For anyone interested, this is a reply that I got from Abbott America about their Manual Boost Control valve. I honestly don't know if its a sales pitch mostly, or some of this is good stuff. <shrug> I'll let you decide...
Thomas,
We have the manual boost control valve in stock. It is $49.00.
However, please read the following carefully before you decide to order
or install this valve.
The manual boost valve WILL disable your APC system. APC provides a
high degree of engine protection by pulling back the boost in the event
of any detonation or preignition of the engine. These conditions of
course can cause severe engine damage, especially over time-
specifically burned valves or even more seriously, piston, con rod or
even crank damage. Contrary to common belief, you cannot always hear or
be aware of these conditions.
If you fit the manual boost valve, you will still have some degree of
engine protection- the Trionic system will still enrich the engine and
still retard timing if "pinging" occurs and you will still have a fuel
cut if a maximum boost value is exceeded. However, you will loose the
boost retard function described above. You will run an increased risk
of engine damage, especially if you run a high boost level.
Abbott uses these valves in England with less worry because British fuel
is 98 octane meaning there is less likelihood that there will be
"pinging". Our gas is lower- 93 octane high test (Sunoco 94 octane)-
meaning there is less margin.
The best way to go is to reprogram the Trionic ECM for 35 Bhp power
increase. This is a more expensive option ($860.00- plus installation
and calibration costs) but it works and maintains engine safety
parameters. We can provide you with a major power gain (70Bhp) with
ECM, intercooler and turbo kit upgrade for the biggest gain. Or even
more with flowed head, etc.
I hope that this clarifies things for you. Please contact me for
further information or if you would like to place an order.
Regards,
Dave
