I'm the last one to think somebody else must be to blame for my own misfortune, but in this case it appears that this hellacious situation occurred either because of a design defect (in the cover most likely) or else in the workmanship (by the guy who replaced the belt and cover). If the work was done at an approved SAAB service location, which I'm assuming it was from your message, I would think you are within your rights to raise Hell and have the matter taken care of by the dealer/importer, at not a cent in cost to you. If you did it yourself or had the work done at an Indie, it may be a bit more difficult, but a good starting point would be finding out if this has happened to somebody else. From what I've heard, and in my own fairly limited experience, SAAB are usually pretty good about warranty stuff, certainly compared to other manufacturers, but of course there are always exceptions. Remember the story of the guy who got several million $ in exemplary & punitive damages from the BMW importer a few years ago... see if you can find Johnnie Cochran!
