Bypass Valve Saga (long)

I got the Bosch upgrade valve from Swedish Dynamics and installed it. I'm still getting the hooting/honking sound on low boost. I assumed that the new valve wasn't up to the task and called Swedish Dynamics to exchange it for a Turboxs valve. The tech there said that the Bosch valve should be able to handle just about any boost that I could throw at it, and that it sounded like the line that carries the manifold pressure to keep the valve closed wasn't working right. If that's true, the spring in the valve is doing all the work on its own, and can't handle the boost. I checked the line from the manifold and it looked sound, but I bought some new line and will install it today.
The symptoms are getting clearer. When the turbo needle is just between the white and yellow (green and yellow at night) sections, I get the hooting. I can maintain the hooting with the throttle, as long as I keep the needle in that space. This is especially consistent at around 2500 rpm. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm accelerating, but I do have to be feeding the turbo for it to happen (as opposed to the drop off between shifts, where it's quiet). This happens at any speed, in any gear (I haven't checked reverse yet).
The tech at Swedish Dynamics also said that if it's not the manifold pressure line, it could be another vacuum leak somewhere else, or the vacuum reservoirs (I don't know where these are). Or, the crankcase ventilation check valve.
If anyone has any thoughts, I'd sure appreciate them! Performance is good, but the hooting is driving me nuts.
