My wife and I have had ours for about 14 months and 22k miles. I am very pleased with the car's performance and reliability. I have had the antenna mast replaced, 2 cans of R134 refilled, oil changes, 65k maintenance, and clutch cable replaced (none of which are V6 related). Yeah, you have to change the timing belt every 30k, but so what. Saab picks up the first 3 through 95k.
As a former VW fan, I still can not understand why people make such a fuss over the VW VR6. Up until very recently in the U.S., it has only been offered as a 12v 2.8L putting out about 174 hp. The European GM/Saab 2.5L V6 is a very free revving 24v. Ours is a manual and a lot of fun. I believe it is way underrated at 170 hp as to not canibalize turbo sales. Also, it gets great mileage. One trip to Minneapolis from Kansas City we got an amazing 33.0 miles/gallon. My old GTI could not even do that.
Unfortunately wife likes the car so much that she has taken it hostage. I no longer get to drive it much, but that is okay because I've now purchased a 525i.
