Unfortunately I have had to recently change what my response to this thread would have otherwise been. I have a 1995 900SE with the V-6 and 90500 miles and about a month after I spent well over $1000 to replace the water pump and the air conditioning compressor, the infamous timing belt broke. The result was bent valves and the engine now needs to be replaced. Upon the suggestion of the dealership, I called SaabUsa and after a week of waiting for a response, they offered $2000 towards the repair or another vehicle.
At first reaction, I am not inclined to accept this offer since this obviously faulty part ruined a perfectly good car. I am considering legal action since I have been perfect with the maintenance program including the replacement of the timing belt at the perscribed mileage. I can't see where I should have to shell out additional thousands of dollars to replace the engine. The dealership estimated the cost of getting a replacement would be $9000 but I would have the added bonus of waiting six weeks for shipment from Sweden.
This incident has definitely tarnished my opinion of Saab and this does not make me happy because I really loved my car before this happened.
