Amplifier installation solution(long)

Anyone who has tried to install a non-Saab/Clarion amp knows what an ordeal it can be. I wanted to keep the in-dash stereo since I have only heard installation horror stories from people who chose a different route. Now I have one of my own. But after through the pain I found a solution and want to share it with others.
If you want to modify your system, buy whatever amplifier, speakers and subwoofers you want. The amplifier will no doubt have RCA input. This is a problem because the preamp output on the head unit is an 8pin DIN. Saab will sell you a 'booster cable' for around $120 that will fit, but it is 8pin male-male, not 8pin male->RCA. Otherwise you will have to make one (see Richard Bevan's Saab audio page). Make an 8pin male-male cable like the one Saab will sell you. Then go to <http://www.valcoelectronics.com>, look under car audio accessories and you will find the sacred part you will need to complete your system - an 8pin female to 2channel RCA output! And it's only $8!!It's called an ALDF8, and its an 8pin female adapter for Alpine amps, but should work for any amp with RCA input. Unfortunately I found this only after the 8pin->RCA cable I made didn't work, and after I hacked up the cable I bought from Saab in an effort to solder it to the RCA cables that were installed with my amp. I was just about to bite the bullet and go the speacker-level route :(. I sure hope this saves someone time, money, and frustration! Feel free to email with any questions!
