I have a 96 900s with 2.3 litre Engine. My exhaust is as follows:
1.) From the headers to the end of a Cat. is one piece about 33 inches long (not measuring the curvature). This piece holds a front O2 sensor and a rear O2 sensor just after the Cat. There is a small 4" flex piece between the hearder pipe and the Cat.
2.) There is a flex pile from the end of the Cat to the beginning of the middle Muffler (silencer). This piece has a flex piece that is about 10 inches long with the whole pice being around two feet long.
3.) Then there is the middle muffler which has a bumch of curved pipe and muffler in it.
4.) The final muffler in the rear which connects to #3 above.
Now, which piece has gone bad in your case? item # 1 or item #2?
Thousand bucks is way too much.
I got a Starla front piece (item #1 above) which includes the cat for $289 dollars from BMA imports.
Item #2 above the flex/pipe for $75 bucks.
So in essence, the $1000 they want to charge you can pretty much by you two four piece exhaust systems for a SAAB.
