This will have to wait as the front shocks are not yet installed.
The sway bar really stops body roll. Without body lean, the turn in response is reduced, so you have to turn the steering while a lot more than before. For steering where body roll is not an issue, such as when making fine steering corrections while on the highway, the steering is just at sensitive as before. Highway lane changes are more stable. See previous posts on that.
I am feeling that the 7/8" bar might be a bit too heavy. It has some slack in its bolting up, so I may be sliding it forward instead of its full back postion to see if that is beneficial. I am still getting used to it.
So the sway bar takes some getting used to. It does allow the vehicle to corner hard and flat. But you will feel more force feedback in the steering wheel in the turns. I don't know if that is VRK specific.
The rear shocks by themselves are not a dramatic change, and the old ones with 130000 miles did not seem shot when I removed them. The rear Koni's are now on the softest position. I should give them a tweek.
I have been advised that the harshess that I am feeling with the old shocks is probably the front suspension hitting the bump stops. I may be cutting some of the bump stops away when the new front shocks go in. The soft shocks may be allowing this impact on the bump stops. It has been suggested that the springs may have settled and be causing some of this. I don't know about that. The folks who have installed lowering springs could certainly be banging the bump stops more than me. I have a some heat heave in the roads and some uneven concrete joints to travel which are very anoying.
Q2... Better shocks can control the rate of body sway but not the how far the body leans. So with a stiff sway bar and most body roll being eliminated, there is almost no body roll dynamic for the shocks to influence. Make sense?
BTW, I am rebuilding my brakes, new rear calipers, springs, pins, pads, front rotors and EBC green pads. I have one bad rear piston and need all of the braking capacity that I used to have to cope with the expressway run rise glare brake surging. Crazy thing that! The front rotors and pads are the originals at 130000 miles.
95SET, VRK, Konis 1/2 installed, SAS sway bar.
