Hear! Hear!! You are soooo right!! A lot of what's on that list is just regular maintenance. It's sort of odd--with a Saab, you either get a great one or you get a dog. I'v got two great ones--a '95 900SE 3 door and a '78 99 Turbo. The 900 has 158K on it--and I just finished a 1200 mile ride from Baltimore back to school in Rude Island (had to pick up my stranded brother down in Maryland--cancelled flight, no trains and no busses. Svenska Aeroplan to the rescue!!) Weird things go on the 900--I've lost the tie rod ends (110K) but I still have the struts (they're going in the spring-the roads in this neck of the woods stink in the winter). I lost a ball joint at 90K--but again, I think that's more where I drive than the car. 900 is just about the toughest car I've ever had--I have had the car just about 4 years and I've put all but the 1st 19,000 miles on the car. A lot of what you lost on your 900S is just maintenance. I haven't experienced any sort of all at once failure with either Saab. (The 99 was rescued from an abandoned property auction. Have no idea how many miles are really on the car--the odo says 692,961). One of the keys is an oil change every 3-5000 miles, and changing the plugs and the coolant every 30K. I rotate the tires every 2nd oil change--run Pilots on the 900 and Pirellis on the 99. I usually get 2 years out of the tires on the 900--the Gislaveds go on at the first hint of snow in November.
Your best bet--find a good independent. I found out the hard way how one of the local dealers down here had been taking advantage of me!!
Good luck
