This is not a tire problem, but some tires are more prone to this than others. The steering rack in mounted in rubber, the control arm that runs back to the firewall 'fixed' with a rubber bushing. The lower control arm that goes to the subframe is also to a rubber bushing. The rubber bushing that joins the two '''control''' arms is a hollow oil filled 'hydraulic' bushing. So the steering geometry has a life of its own with subjected to external forces. Acceleration will change the geometry. Any rutting in the pavement will drive the system nuts, and accelleration on rutted pavemment is like fighting with a snake.

If you replace some the the rubber bits with the Viggen Rescue Kit (VRK), then the rutting forces are still there, but you can hold the wheel firmly and maintain control.

Tires with softer side walls are much less prone to these problems than tires with stiff side walls. Some performance tires are like that, and as they age, they get stiffer and things get worse.

The Saabs are like this as new. As things age, the steering can get bogus as the bushings age. Worn shocks can affect steering dynamics.
