If you want greater stopping power, then get better brake pads. They will have a higher coefficient of friction and will outgas less so there is less fade and less need to have holes and slots.

The EBC Green Stuff pads (kelvar) can be had at tirerack.com and from other sites. Many get these pads primarily because they produce much less brake dust. TSN sponsors sell aftermarket rotors.

Search for drs_install and see my write up on replacing the front rotors and pads. Rear pad installs are very easy. Rear rotors are not bad, but you have to unclip the steel brake lines to allow them to safely flex as you move the unbolted caliper out of the way to replace the rotor. You need to to PM on the rear parking brake machanism at this time. Clean and grease sliding steel on steel bits. For both front and back rotors, the first thing that you need to do is make sure that you can get the rotor retaining bolts/screws to back out. If they are stuck, you are not replacing the rotors. These screws should be greased or covered with anti sieze when fitted to facilitate later removal. These are important. Several folks have stripped the heads of these trying to remove them. Don't make them too tight when replacing!

There are several places where you can get rear pads, but getting new shims is a often a problem. They rust out very fast. I am considering getting stainless steel shims. The rear pins get rusty but last a long time. The anti squeal springs rust badly and should be painted or greased to prevent rust. The tiny rivet that joins the two pieces is the first to go, but the springs can be fitted even with a toasted rivet.
