...as I know from personal experience (not to mention reading of the system description in the shop manual) that the whole purpose of the second sensor is so that the ECU can monitor the cat's performance. If it degrades, even a little bit, CEL is supposed to be thrown. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding. I suppose that if the high-flow cat performs as well as the stock one, then all should be OK. But OBD-II didn't activate the CEL with no cat?
My brother's '96 900SET recently went through a CEL problem. It took replacement of both O2 sensors and the cat to fix it. Good thing he didn't have to pay for it, though. Absurd that a 3" aftermarket cat costs about a hundred bucks but the stock one runs, what, $500 dealer list?
