Splicing in flared or compression fittings seems to me the way to go. But I haven't looked at the clearance either. Might have to use one of those Stanley portable hand hack saws to saw the line, rather than a tube cutter. Once cut, you can probably bend and get a flaring tool in place, or else dress it with a file or emery and install compression fittings and an appropriate length splice. The deciding factor is whether metric sized tubing is close enough to American fractional sizes though.
