If you get a rebuilt one form Advance Autoparts it has a lifetime warranty other parts suppliers may have that too since many of them go to the same supplier. You release tensio on the belt by putting a 1/2 drive breaker bar in the square hole on top of the tensioner arm and then pulling it towards the front of the car. Then, you put a nail or small drill bit through a horizontal hole between the rear of the tensioner arm and its bracket to hold it in place. After you remove the belt release the tensioner arm and remove it but taking out the 8mm allen screw at the pivot point. This will allow you to get at the upper alternator mounting bolt better. You should also remove the small grooved idler pulley to get it out of your way. Somebody else just went through this in the last week or two so you might want to read that thread. Click on more from DRW to see other posts I have made on this subject. The Haynes manual isn't good for this job, but I believe everyone should have it, the factory manuals or a subscription to alldata.com's online manuals if they plan to do any of their own maintenance. Hope this helps and good luck.
