By no means should you ever pay for what you have the skills to do yourself. There is nothing special about servicing your Saab, or any car for that matter. Nuances and info needed can be gathered on this BBS prior to taking on just about any project.
Do what you are comfortable with yourself and take it to the dealer for the rest.
Dont be a "checkbook mechanic" if you have the time and skills. This BBS will get you thru it if you are mechanically inclined!
I've been a Saab owner since 1986...I do all my own service and document it as such, keep all my records, etc.
I do it all by the book per Saab's recommendations and use the dealer only for parts and computer diagnostics when necessary. I have driven 3 of the 5 Saabs I have owned for over 175K and they were good cars up until I sold them (and probably are still great)!
