I just read this article and thought about sending a letter/e-mail in to C&D.
The automotive press (C&D included) needs to start evaluating Saab on its merits and not spending all of they're time talking about how Saab's are SO "quirky" and "the key is between the seats", etc, etc.
Seems like they decided this 15 years ago and have been talking about it ever since. The article only made blanket generalizations about Saab and how they are SO "quirky" and "different". Did they even test drive the Viggen???
I have not driven the VIggen, but have driven a couple 9-3's and the newest 328 BMW. I agree that Saab's were once very "quirky" (I've had multiple Saabs since 1986), but really feel in the NG900 and esp the 9-3/9-5, most of these are gone. I feel like the Viggen is a solid competitor with the other cars in the C&D test and deserves more than a bunch of pre-scripted babble about the key being between the seats.
Saab is still somewhat unique and individualistic in design, but they make it sound as if the Viggen is as much of a shock to drive as my clunky 1993 classic 900 with its upright seats and tall shifter position.
Don't get me wrong, I love Saab's uniqueness in design but Saab has come full-circle in refinement since the clunky classic 900 (I still own one) and the early 9000's (I owned 3).
