Clutch Slippage? Damage done?

Doing a 0-60 sprint I think I had a serious case of clutch slippage in 2nd. I attribute this to over-revving and not letting out the clutch fast enough. Anyway, the car wasnt accelerating hard at all and the engine jumped almost to redline with the clutch all the way out (and no, the tires were not spinning.) I smelled the unwelcomed clutch-burn smell. The car seemed fine the rest of the way home, but I could still smell it on the outside of the car at home (5 miles later.) How much damage have I probably done? Can I expect the clutch to slip more easily from now on? Is it likely that the clutch will just fail soon? Will the issue get worse until it fails or will it just fail one day at random? Finally, what really happens when a clutch slips like this? Is it likely that this was caused by a clutch that is just getting worn and needs to be replaced?
