If it's temperature related, the first thing I'd look at is the thermostat--- to see if it's sticking open, and not allowing the coolant/engine to reach operating temperature. Your temp gauge should be firmly in the center of the range after 10 minutes or so of running. If it's below this point, the thermostat is probably sticking open.
To check the engine fault code--- do this-- turn your key to the on position (don't start the engine). After a few seconds, the check engine light will come on with a sustained duration of a few seconds, then it will begin a series of quick flashes. Count the flashes. If there is more than one fault, it will pause, and another set (different #) of flashes will occur. The check engine light will keep repeating the codes as long as the key is on.
