Rather than disconnecting it, try to clean it out with a little compressed air, for example, the compressed air for cleaning computers. Normally the fan should run very quiet, it only gets noisy when dirty, say after 60K miles, or in your case 109K. Maybe even a little lubricating oil could be helpful, (WD-40).
It is also very easy to replace, though I do not know how much it would go for.
The motor will not kill the battery either, though it does run even when the car is off in some cases.
