On mine, on the right side of the door, there is a "male" lever that goes in and out of a hole in the dash with a pull on the handle, much like a regular door handle. The attachment between the handle and the lever must have broken, because the "male" lever is always out, thus locked. I use my key, inserted between the door and the dash on the right side, to maneuver the lever in (more force than finesse), while pulling on the handle, although this has marked the dash a little. A piece of tape over the lever keeps it in usually, allowing the other latch to take over its duties. A butterknife would work as well, without marring the surface. I have been too lazy to cut off the lever.
