If you're trying to replace the o-ring I'm thinking of, you're looking in the wrong place. Look down on the head adjacent to where the distributor meets the valve cover/head, on the bottom of the distributor shaft. Here is a "yolk", attached to the distributor shaft, which holds the distributor in place...with a bolt on it. Mark the position of the distributor to the head as well as the position of the rotor to the distributor (it rotates!) and then remove this bolt (13mm I think) and the distributor will slide out towards the driver's side of the car.
You will quickly see the o-ring on the distributor shaft. Remove, refit and reinstall with your marks lineing up. Replace the bolt and torque to 14-16 ft lbs.
