I don't care what Saab says. If you have moving parts there is wear; bits of metal wear off gears, bearings, syncros, etc and eventually turn the oil into an abrasive compound. Trans oil does not have to be changed as frequently as engine oil since there are no acids from combustion byproducts but I feel a whole lot better changing any non engine lubriant (trans, rears, transfer cases etc.) once a year whether it needs it or not. I do it myself, so whats $16 worth of synthetic gear lube every year compared to the cost of a trans.
