Hey Jack, Here is my suggestion:
Where to buy
==========
First, order the center muffler assembly (there are about 4 sections to the exhuast, and the section with the center muffler has about 4 feet of pipe attached to it) from cybertroll.com or eeuroparts.com for about $85
Where stuff is
===========
The center muffler sits right between the feet of the rear passengers by the way, it has a C-clamp on the front of the pipe (around the bums of the front seats) and the same C-clamp at the tail end (around the rear wheels, just before the back muffler).
Safety first!!!
=========
Provided you can properly jack and block/stand your car (not the jack in your trunk! but a proper hydraulic jack and axel stands or something super safe -- ask around here what the right way to jack is), the procedure will take you about 15 minutes once you are under there SAFELY.
What you need
============
A wrench :)
The assembly doesn't come with the brackets, but you can probably use your own since it's your muffler thats rusted, not the clamps most likely. The pipe has a flange that fits over the connecting pipe of the next section of the exhaust in the chain. All you do is fit it over in exactly the same way as what you see there. (it's as easy as snapping lego together). The front end of the assembly has two fingers that keep a rubber band type hanger in place. You can bend the old ones back with pliers and keep the rubber hanger for your new exhaust, noting that you will be reversing the procedure (bend the metal fingers around the rubber hanger thing just as it was) before you tighten back the c-clamps, which will be the last thing you do, make sure you rotate the pipe/muffler assembly in such a way as to get it pretty much centered and not rubbing or touching anything when it's still or when you move it around with your hands. It is most likely to rub up against the heat barrier (the metal sheet to the passenger-side of the muffler). If its touching the car at all, you're going to hear about it later. It will rumble and buzz from the contact point, even though the exhaust will be silent. Don't worry too much about it because if that happens you can always loosen the brackets a tiny bit, turn the muffler a tiny bit, retighten the brackets and it'll be fine.
So there you have it: $85 plus 15 minutes of actual labor, probably 2 hours of looking around slowly seeing how it all fits together checking your work and just making sure you are safe. If you're not comfortable under your car find a friend who, but don't make do with stands or blocks that you improvise, make sure you get the proper jacking stuff from an auto store first (plan for $50 or more on that if you don't have it already).
Hope that helps and please be safe,
Tom.
