I have a 1998 900S 2.3 and a 1986 900S 16V.
In my view, the NG900 is much more modern car. Interior is nicer. It's more comfortable. It's much quieter and softer riding. The whole experience is much more modern, so to speak.
The classic feels much better, at least to me. The handling is phenomenal. I have 1991+ SPG springs, antiroll bars, Bilsteins. The turning cirle is second to none -- it car really turn on a dime. There is much more flexibility in suspension tuning, as you can easily adjust the front suspension any way you like.
Whenever I drive the NG900, I enjoy the quiet and comfort but I don't feel engaged. The classic, on the other hand, is incredibly engaging. I get goosebumps whenever I drive it.
Overall, the NG900 has been much more reliable in my experience (knock on wood). It may have something to do with difference in mileage: 67k vs. 300k) Still, my C900 has been fairly trouble-free and I enjoy it tremendously.
