annoyingly noisy rear brakes

I have a '94 900SET with 77k miles and a '96 900S Convt with 62k miles. The rear brakes on both cars occasionally squeak while driving/coasting (not braking). The noise immediately stops upon any application of either the hand brake or foot brake, and resumes as soon as either is released. Therefore I don't know if it's coming from the hand-brakes (drum) or foot-brakes (disc). I can only hear the squeaking when the windows are open/top is down so I don't know how often it happens. Sometimes the noise is more pronounced when turning, especially right hand turns. Is this something that is common to these cars? Since both of mine have the same problem, I assume others must. I've not changed the rear brakes on either of these cars, and the problem has persisted on both for quite some time. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears. Thank you!
