today i picked up my 1995 900S/60,500mi. from a local body shop after a few small scrapes was repaired on the front/rear bumpers. when i pulled away, i noticed a very strange heavy vibration in first gear upon acceleration. although this probably isn't it, it *SOUNDED* and *FELT* like gears grinding. however, i have an automatic transmission and this did not occur during gear shifting. i have heard the sound of gears grinding before in a manual tranny, and this sound is similar. it seems to happen more frequently when accelerating up hills, and it always immediately goes away after a few seconds or if i let off the gas. it doesn't happen every time i accelerate, only sometimes. when a friend of mine hopped in the car to have a listen, she thought it was an exhaust issue. i really have no idea. BUT, i do remember that when i pulled out of the driveway at the body shop, i went off the curb just a tiny bit, causing that very mild, negligible scrape most drivers are used to. but could i have knocked something on the underside of the car when i went off the curb? (or could the body shop guy have done something while he had it? he happens to be the person from whom i bought this car, and he owned it for awhile, so we know him personally and i don't think he would have done anything. also, i called and asked him about it and he seemed honest when he told me he didn't know anything.) anyway that's all the details i can give for now, can anyone help!?
