Mali,

I have used universals in several Volkswagens in the psat and they worked as good as the Bosch and lasted just as long. I recently posed that my Volvo 850 Turbo required sensors as I experenced all the classic symtoms, eggy smell exhaust, poor mileage and reduced perfomance. The symtoms usually set in over time so it can be difficult to tell for some.

I called the dealer and they wanted too much money for a sensor. My local parts guy (a good friend) could do no better than $120 - $125 (front/rear) for the Bosch plug ins. I searched the web and found oxygensensors.com and liked the pricing $49.95 for the universal 4 wire splice in. The direct plug is was slightly more expensive and I originally wanted that, but they were out of stock. $107 later I had two O2 sensors in my hand and it took me about an hour with common tools. If you have a good ramp or jack and jack-stands you will also need a stripper/crimper and a wrench to remove/install.

I was a skeptic of the no-name univerals (they are Walkers), but after talking with the guy selling them he put my mind at ease. He claimed that walker actually make some O2 sensors for Bosch, this seemed far fetched, but for the money how could I go wrong. He also said that if they did not work I could refund them for 100% refund (no one else would stand behind them this much). You can also find the cheaper units at local parts stores and then download the instructions from the site mentioned.

IMPORTANT NOTE - If you do this yourself, make SURE you use the anti-sieze compound on the threads or the next replacement will impossible as the unit will rust into place. (I made this mistake years ago).

Now that I have found that the lower priced sensors, I would have a hard time spending the moeny for a Bosch unit.

Hope this helps.
