For wet traction get a softer tire tread compound. Tires designed for long tread life will not grip in the wet and will be vary dangerous when cold and wet. As they last longer, they have longer to age harden which makes them all the worse as a mature tire. So get a performance tire, and avoid a wear rating over 220. 140 will work very well, 180 would also be good. 220 works but not as well.
For this you will spend more money for a tire that wears out faster. But if you wnat good wet traction, there are no alternatives.
