Did any of you had to change the ECU for the convertible mechanism ? The ECU is located in the trunk, driver side, close to the antenna mask.

Problem: The top stops in its track now and then and sometimes it just does not want to go up. It happens at the lower part of the movement, when closing the top. This happened to me lots of times for the last two years and I have always went to the dealer and have the top movement reprogrammed and everything went fine. A few weeks after it always started acting up again.

This time was really bad and after the regular visit to the dealer it does almost the same think. The dealer said that I have to change the ECU and the 5th bow motor. The stop is still working and no funny noises are going on. How can the ECU go bad like that. It costs a fortune and I will not pay that much money if the top still functions. Obviously, if I ever want to sell the car, I will lose money because of that, but since I do not want to sell it, I don't care that much.

The only problem is that these types of repairs never end and even if I change the ECU, I am not sure that it will solve the problem.

What are your experiences ?
Can I get the ECU reprogrammed or fixed ? What could go wrong in a ECU ? Hardware ? Software ?
