The Saab OEM gear style clamps are really bad with small hoses. The gear section is quite flat and rigid and does not work well at all. For these hoses, they need to be quite tight. The rubber under the clamps does yield over time and the clamping pressure is lost.
The connection to the bottom of the expansion tank is a problem, as well as the connections to the head and thermostat area.
I replaced the smaller clamps with all stainless clamps from the hardware store. A buffer wrap of some kind if fiber tape between the clamp and hose will eliminate rubber from being cut and extruded through the slots in the bands. Not an idea solution for sure, but very workable if you take this added step. For smaller hoses, where you can get a narrow clamp with a smaller gear section, choose that over the wider clamps. These will conform better to the smaller ID's and produce a more even clamping pressure.
Note that the water pump to block adapter has two o-rings that harden over time which results in leakage. You can barely see there with a flashlight. No, small leaks don't result in obvious stains as you would expect.
