I thought I was a poster in the 105K service as well. Re-read it if you must--to open it up at a time next week in my 105 k post.
You do not have to "go of" on me or anybody with your sit on the sidelines advice. It's inappropriate. You seem to be very short fused here, for all the lenghty advice you doll out to others.
One little mention of a opposing review, and again -- not mine-- and you try to bait me into how I may have oppsed 40W oil ???? What's up with that ? And you tell me to sit on the sidelines, and how I am "by the book".
You know nothing about me. "By the book--doubtful". In the book--more possible. By 25 years of SAAB experiences--way way way more real life--but as YOU said it is a BB.
And again--the refute was NOT by me, it was by +Vlad over your mileage claims/language/words ---what-have-you. It was not by me.
The mere mention of a the refute with a daily casual expression in the English language---shot down-- has you putting words in my mouth that never existed. How professional is that??
Back to SAABS:
Interesting you say you would not use the thinner oils. I think the future of posts on this BB will be centered on these lighter weight oils--especially with the new MB 2003 oil spec.
All these auto manufacturers are looking for CAFE improvements and emmissions reductions. Quick warm-up is one solution.
I amd using 0W-30 Mobil One in my 2002 9-3 SE. Marvelous improvements in engine warm up and mileage. I conservatively figure 9% INCREASE. My owners manual endorses that this oil weight is ok to use---and SAAB will warrant my vehicle for 4 x 50k miles.
The car is quiet, and quick to warm to operating temps. Incresaed gas mileage and lower emmissions for Mother Earth.
The original poster who you and I responded to asked about your 40W application if he drove to the red-line.....
I feel in earnest that 99% of all the posters here, who have 1995/96/97 model year SAAB cars with at-- or over 100,000 miles, CANNOT outdrive the Mobil ONE 10W-30 synthetic oil super-syn SL oil.
Drive as hard as you like--unless you're at the DRAGSTRIP nite after nite, you'll not outdrive the protection of the Mobil One 10W-30. Viggen/HOT or BASE !!!***
The great majority of issues of the chain and balance shafts failing, according to SAAB have been linked to previous owners who did not change their oil on a "regular basis", and or use quality brand oil. Not the emphasis on the weight of the oil --as you post
***Commercially avalable, and low price (Wal-Mart, Target, Meijer, and more etc.)
