<95 SE V6> When started dead cold the idle goes up quickly a bit at a time to about 1800RPM and settles down to about 1200RPM. Previous to the cleaning it would stumble and almost die.

What is the (when new) startup routine for the V6? I can't remember!


There was not much carbon, but the valve has close tolerances it seems.

I managed to remove the IAC without taking off the intake manifold:
(It's on the underside of the intake and the end of the manifold.)
Unplug the connector on the back of the IAC. Unbolt (10MM) the wire harness supports from the manifold and push it down. Unbolt (female Torx E8) the outside bolt of the metal strap holding the IAC, and push the strap down. Carefully push down and rotate the IAC (with its rubber seal) out the back. Loosen the clamp for the hose and remove.
Clean with carb cleaner, use something plastic to operate the valve all the way open while cleaning (goes one way only).
Install the rubber seal first. Clamp the hose back on. Rotate and push the IAC up into the seal. Very carefully (don't strip it!) thread the Torx bolt through the strap into the manifold and tighten. Reconnect electrical.
