Natch, I was hoping it was the FPR. The problem seems to be an overly rich start on our car. When I pulled a plug just after a hard start, there was a lot of gas on the plug.
If you go with the sport exhaust, add a resonator (or reuse the stock). It has a nice throaty sound, defineatly not a coffee can sound; fairly quiet at idle.
What I did: The sport exhaust comes in two pieces, so I sawed off the stock resonator at the slip joint on the sport system, and used a 2 1/4 band clamp (from NAPA) to hold them together. (The original exhaust is slightly smaller than the sport and doesn't seal in the slip joint with a regular exhaust clamp.)
I tried running without the cat and it was a little too loud, about the same as running without the resonator. Either way was especially loud when starting cold.
