Ok, this might be a little long. I decided to change my oil and filter. Car was running fine at this point. I emptied the oil. At this point I decided to try making the magnetic drain plug out of the standard plug. I won't go into detail there, but suffice to say I made sure the extra length of the magnet would not interfere with anything inside the oil pan. I put the plug in, the new filter on, and filled it with Delvac 1. I ran the car for about 15 seconds, to get the oil through the whole system before checking the level. Everything is a-ok at this point. I left the car in my garage and went to bed.

Today I decided to replace the spark plugs with BCPR6ES, because the BCPR7ES I had in there were not running very clean. Then it was getting late, so I went to bed. I cleaned off some of the top surfaces with some multipurpose cleaner, taking care that none of it went into any crevices where it might cause problems.

I went about doing other things for a few hours, then decided to move my car out of the garage. Upon turning the ignition, the engine started to turn over but after a couple seconds it made a sound that sounded like starter grinding. I tried again, and all I got was the grinding sound.

My first thought was maybe the magnet I put on the drain plug had somehow come off, or was somehow getting in the way of something. Neither of these was very likely, but regardless I drained the oil, and looked at the plug. Everything was still in tact. To be safe, I removed the magnet, and put the plug back on in its original state. I filled up the oil again, tried to start it, and still the same sound.

My second though was maybe there was something wrong with the new plugs, either gapped incorrectly, or something else. I put the old plugs back in, tried to start it and still the same sound.

Now I am at a loss. It seems like I must have done something to cause the problem, but I can't figure out what it is. Anyone have any suggestions?
