Update on battery/starting problems

I changed my battery over this weekend and the car now works OK, but the starting has not improved, it still requires quite a few engine cranks to start when cold (15 degree C at moment) or when the engine has not been started for 1-2Hours.
So my battery cell failed all of a sudden, which means the battery was not the reason for the difficulty starting pattern.
I have added some more injector cleaner in there and gave it today a bit of a boot to make sure the injectors get a fair work load. But I am not suspecting them. I am getting decent power for N/A 2.0L engine Automatic in such a large body.
My next attempt will be to see if the temperature sensor is sending correct signals to ECU.
Which other sensors are worth checking while I am having the ECU disconnected from the wiring loom?
Is any checks I can do for the air flow meter?
Also can the idle control valve be adjusted. I have seen some that can be adjusted using an adjuster screw. I also experienced starting problems from hot caused by a sticky idle control valve on an other car. Could idle control valve cause starting problem from cold on a Saab?
