Ticking? You may have had sticking valves or lifters. Did the product also claim to free sicking rings?
The PCV fitting that was plugged with crud also suggests a mess in the engine. I would suggest chemical cleaners, and change the oil soon after using these. Synthetic oil should prevent these things from happening.
Have you been buring any oil? If so, that would indicate sticking rings.
What oil has been in use?
Did you also clean the injectors?
