It's a '95 900 SET with just over 100K miles. I bought it as a lease return with 30K miles so I don't know how the P.O. treated it. I've been changing the oil every 4K with Castrol 10W30.
It's a mystery where all the oil is going because there isn't excessive blue smoke out the pipe (not that I can look back there when I'm really "on the boost"). The garage floor is clean and the plugs are dry. I had the rear main seal changed at 55K miles when that was leaking... They claim that it's a new improved seal and she's been good ever since.
I did a compression test and came up with 210 psi on all cylinders. Saab says that anything over 150 psi is good. Maybe I'll try a leak down test (but I don't have the equipment for that).
The oil pressure light works and thankfully it's NEVER come on since I watch the oil level like a hawk. I strongly suspect that the turbo or the crankcase ventilation system is the cause of the oil loss.
I'm afraid to dump any "snake oil" in the engine or add any of that oil for "older engines". That stuff scares me and Saab advises against it.
In the meantime, I keep a quart handy for long trips!
