The easiest way to describe the routing of the 9-3 belt is,
The center idlerpulley is removed, and the belt is allowed to run directly from ribbed idler pulley over to P/S pump pulley.
Otherwise, the routing is identical as to the NG900. But because the A/C pulley is smaller on the 9-3, it's not possible to just remove the center idlerpulley on NG900 and use a 9-3 belt.
P/S pulley is identical in size 5"
Alternator is slightly smaller ( a 1/4" )on 9-3
Ribbed idlerpulley is same size, BUT the 9-3 uses higher support walls, so that the belt can't jump as easy, since the wrap around is less because of the missing center pulley.
Crank pulley is the same, even partnumber.
W-pump is the same, even partnumber.
Tensioner pulley is the same size 3 1/2", but both tensioner body and pulley is different partnumbers and style. ( could be because of the plastic pulley used on 9-3 and the sheetmetal pulley on NG900.
So I would reccomend caution in just removing the center pulley and using a shorter belt, because it might be that Saab have figured out that it need a stronger spring inside the tensioner and the higher supportwalls on ribbed idler pulley, to be able to keep the belt on the right track.
As long as DIY know what they are doing it's ok. But as for a shop like ours. We need to know excactly what implications it have before we start changing around things that might blow a customers engine up.
