I believe the new type belt and tensioner last 60,000 miles. So you need to determine if you already have the "new" type. But don't trust me on the 60,000 miles - no doubt someone more knowledgeable will respond. The key to the v-6 is maintenance; you give it plenty of maintenance or get plenty of trouble.
My v6 has been generally reliable other than with reverse (manual) gear near the end when I sold it at 134k miles. Yes, over the years there have been a few surprise repairs typical of saab. I used dyno oil every 5k, no doubt others use synth, & maybe the question is what was used on your car historically? Also, it seems premature to replace plugs if that was done with timing belt at 89k.
In some ways I liked the v6 better than its replacement, an 02 9-3 se. The v6 was smoother, especially at low rpms, and at least for me the seats fit a little better, and the steering seemed more precise. Kind of wish I had kept it for around-town use.
Hint: it's hard to get at things in the engine. So to save $$$ and/or your time its best to replace multiple things in the same pass, such as valve cover gaskets & plugs. Also, suggest you do preemptive replacement of wear items if needed - hoses, serp belt, clutch cable.
Good luck
Kevin S.
