The O2 sensor does not work until hot, so maybe not an issue as the ECU does not expect a useful signal right after a cold start.

I suggest pulling the fuse for the air pump and unplugging the solenoid valve. Then see how starts and cel's workout from there. Then base any decisions about permanent changes on that.

96+ ODB-II systems might register a problem, one way to find out.

I can't see that anything that injects air into the exhaust would have any effect on the idle air flow or mixture.

You may never be able to pass an visual emissions test or measurement after you do this, and this might make it impossible to sell the vehicle in some juristictions.
