I've owned my '95 900SEC for 4 and 1/2 years now. My experience has been that while regular maintenance is somewhat higher than your typical car, it's the major repairs and unexpected items that really make the difference. It seems that it's the luck of the draw - some cruise along with few problems, while others (like me, unfortunately) seem to have bad luck with the major expensive stuff.

Some examples (not all-inclusive):

New convertable top motor - $1400
New a/c evaporator + additional work - $1500
New transmission mount - $350
New transmission shift sensor - $700
Replacement of bent rims - $750
New antenna mast and motor - $250
New flaps broken when top motor malfunctioned - $600
New dome light assembly - $200
New windshield washer pump - $200
New coolant sensor and bottle - $150

These are some of the items I didn't really anticipate, and there were several others I haven't listed. This doesn't include scheduled maintenance, exhaust, brakes, tires, gaskets, water pump, hoses, belts, batteries, etc. Sure, some of the regulars will say I was robbed, but I'm no mechanic and can only try my best to get treated fairly.

That being said, I love my SAAB.
