Several shocks questions (a little long)

96SET 105k miles manual - original shocks (and it's starting to get obvious!).
1. Which shocks? Or... I don't really drive the car hard but want better than stock (for the SE) performance. So, I think I have ruled out the Koni's. I see on Tirerack some KYB's. Are these more performance than stock? Also (and most confusing), are the Boge available on eEuroparts.com. They come in "Hard", "Regular" and "Soft". But, all are stated as OEM equivalent. What does that mean - is the "Hard" harder than my original SE shocks?
Bottom line: ruling out the Koni's (more than I need), which will give the best (or better than stock SE) performance for the money without being too harsh? Recommendations/personal experiences???
2. Can I mix manufacturers and, for the Boge, hard/soft/regular front to back?
3. Other than replacing the KYB mounts, is there anything else I can/should replace while doing this?
Thanks in advance... Rob
