My son was in an accidendt 12/06/02 - had to have front end work done. When I picked up the car - I drove it about 4 miles and heard an engine "knocking" Noise - imeediately I shut it down. I Called and had the car towed back to the SAAB Dealer. I was informed that it was a connecting rod noise, but they wanted me to spend 250 - 300 bucks to pull the pan to verify as they did not honor the extended warranty that I had on the car - (They only handle GMPP). I had the car towed to the dealer (used to be the SAAB Delaer) where we had bought the car from. They tore it down and found 2 bad connecting rods. They called Fidelity (extended warranty people) and a guy came out and said they would not honor the warranty as the car had sludge in the pan. I then explained that we were the 2nd owner of the car - had ALL of the service records and ALL of SAABS services were performed as required. They still told me tough luck chuck as there wsa sludge in the pan - No where in SAABS service did it ever say to remove the pan and clean out the sludge - lol - even though we did all the oil changes as required and service - we still ended up with sludge - go figure.
So now my issue is this - what should I expect this to run me if the dealer goes in to replace the bad connecting rods (What should they all do?), or would I be better off paying for a new/rebuilt engine?
Any of your opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated! I should get the estimates from them sometime on Monday.
Thanks Again!
