Help ! Replaced V6 timing belt fails - causes damage

Hello all,
My brother-in-law has a SAAB 900SE V6; when he purchased it from the previous owner at 34K miles we were careful to have the timing belt replaced (knowing that the timing belt was an issue with the 900SE V6). We also had the tensioner pulley replaced as part of that work. All this work was done at Perillo SAAB in Chicago since the car was purchased in Chicago and it was regularly serviced at Perillo.
Last week, on the freeway as my sister was driving the car to work, the car made some funny noises and the engine stalled within a few minutes. Luckily she was not hit from behind and pulled the car to the shoulder.
Concours Motors in Milwaukee looked at it and gave an estimate of $9K in damages - owing to the timing belt failure and consequent damages (to the valves etc...).
What recourse do we have with either Perillo or SAAB, since we DID take the precaution and have the timing belt and tensioner pulley changed? What other potential avenues exist? We very much appreciate any help and advise we can get.
Thanks much,
Ravi
