Blown Head Gasket Posted by Scotty [Email] (#7352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Scotty) on Fri, 31 Jan 2003 16:15:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 1997 900set has 45k miles and two weeks ago, I noticed oil spots on the garage floor. I looked into it and found the oil dripping down the back of the radiator. Oil was also all over the serpentine belt and it was generally very messy. The best I could tell was that it was coming from the oil lines going into the integrate cooler in the radiator.
The dealer said the head gasket had gone. It was replaced under extended warranty. I asked how it could have gone with so few miles and no engine mods, and dealer said the head bolts flex with temperature fluctuations over time and the seal just goes bad. I aksed if there's a service bulletin or permanent fix, and he said they replaced those bolts, but there's no guarantee it won't happen again.
Anyone else have this problem and does dealer's explanation sound Kosher?
