I have seen so many posts on this topic and I have experienced a slow coolant leak recently, but the guys here on TSN gave me some ideas that seem to have taken care of the problem for now.

There are so many blown head gasket problems with these cars that I think Saab should be covering their replacement, at least up to a certain mileage. A head gasket simply shouldn't fail at 45K, or for that matter, 75K. Not these days anyway.

If mine goes before 100K, I intend to report it to my state's Consumer Affairs Division just so it will be on record as a complaint. I think there is a Federal consumer protection agency as well. If enough people complain, maybe Saab will be forced to do the right thing for its customers. This is a design flaw and they really should take some responsibility for it. I am just glad I have an extended warranty on my 1999 9.3. I am not so lucky with my 900S.

It isn't just a Saab thing either. BMW had problems with profile head gasket failures on their early 1.8 fours, and if you were out of warranty, they basically told you "tough luck." I had a 318 once and it was a notorious oil leaker and went through valve cover gaskets the way most cars go through oil filters.

Anyway, sorry about your experience and thanks for the opportunity to rant!
