Tonneau motor problem on my convertible

Hi all,
Ok, my power hood stops when I'm closing/opening the roof. It'll move back and forth a few inches, but no further in either direction. If I leave the car for 10 minutes, switch on and try again, I'll get another few inches, and the problem starts again. My first thought was a fuse, or maybe a rail had bowed. I had it checked out by Saab Alperton, who showed me the Tonneau motor "popping out", which stops the motor from moving the hood any further.
Saab told me they wanted £800 for a new Tonneau Motor - plus labour. They didn't even say WHY it was doing that, only that's what happens if there's a fault. I won't tell you what I replied, because I'm a gentleman, and there are doubtless a few ladies here.
I mean, what's the cost of an electrical motor? £50? Do Saab buy them in for £600, and add a 33% mark-up? I don't think so!
Anyone know what I could do to get this sorted out, and where, preferably without paying nearly a £1,000? I live in NW London, and any advice would be gratefully received.
It's a 900SE 1996, I've had it since March. Lucky I noticed the problem in the winter (don't you just love not needed to hire a van to take your bookshelves home?) otherwise I'd be in a queue of unfortunate people who only discovered the prob in March!
